The Invisalign System™ from Align Technology is a significant breakthrough in comprehensive adult and teenage orthodontic treatment. The Invisalign System combines an Dr. Jarrell's diagnosis and treatment plan for straightening your teeth with the latest in 3-D computer graphics technology. The System enables orthodontic treatment in discrete stages from an initial to a final position. Each custom-made, clear appliance (or aligner) is manufactured by Align Technology to meet the orthodontist's specifications. Final fitting and delivery of the aligners occurs in the orthodontist's office.

The nearly undetectable appearance of the Invisalign® appliance is ideal for many adults who want straighter teeth, but do not want to wear traditional braces. Each pair of Invisalign aligners (one for the upper arch and one for the lower arch) is worn for approximately two weeks before changing to the next pair in the treatment plan. Aligners are only removed for eating, brushing and flossing.

Invisalign is now an option for teenagers! While Invisalign Teen® works the same way as Invisalign for adults, it also includes a few special features including wear indicators and up to six replacement aligners just in case you throw one away at lunch.

What is it?

Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. So, you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign is made with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective over the past 12 years.

Why would I want it?

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor's office getting adjustments. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

We are one of the few offices to have the state-of-the-art Itero Digital Impression Scanner.

Align technology recently unveiled their "Itero Scanner" which is the latest and greatest invention for taking digital impressions of the teeth. One of the greatest benefits is that the impressions are the most accurate of any other type of impression method, but patients love it because it means the end of the gooey impression material!! And no gagging!!! We are really excited to be able to offer our patients this top-notch technology!

How does it work?

You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Jarrell has prescribed. You'll visit Dr. Jarrell about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

Treatment with Invisalign aligners will not work for everyone. If you are interested, please contact our office to set up a complimentary initial consultation. At this appointment Dr. Jarrell will inform you if Invisalign is right for you, and if not, what other options are available to you.

Retainers

Once you are out of braces and have your beautiful, straight teeth, you will be fitted with an upper and lower retainer. Although movement may be slight, your teeth will not stay perfectly straight if you do not wear your retainers as instructed. Even teeth that have not been moved with Orthodontics will move over time from the forces of biting, clenching, grinding, and fillings or crowns, so it is imperative to wear your retainers as instructed upon completing your treatment.

Normally you will receive a set of upper and lower clear retainers. Dr. Jarrell also normally places a bonded lower retainer which is a wire glued on the back of the lower six front teeth. Immediately following your treatment you will be asked to wear your retainers full-time, 24/7, only removing them to eat and brush, for a limited period of time. After awhile Dr. Jarrell will tell you that it is acceptable to wear your retainers only at nighttime. Eventually, Dr. Jarrell will gradually limit how often you wear retainers.

You will go down to a few nights a week and then over time, just a few nights a month. Retainers are a lifetime commitment. At no point in time will you ever stop wearing your retainers completely! Just remember this, “stop wearing your retainers, when you would like to go through treatment again.”

If you lose or break your retainers, you should call the office immediately so we can make arrangements to repair or replace your retainers, before your straight teeth shift. If you wait, your beautiful, straight teeth will become crooked and a retainer may not fix the problem completely without the help of something more.

Retainer Instructions

•Wear your retainers full time, until the doctor instructs otherwise.
•Take your retainers out when eating… and always put retainers in their case! (Most appliances are lost in school lunch rooms or restaurants.)
•Clean retainers thoroughly once a day with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Use warm but not hot water. Brushing retainers removes the plaque, and eliminates odors. Efferdent® or other orthodontic appliance cleaners can be used, but do not take the place of brushing.
•When retainers are not in your mouth they should ALWAYS be in a retainer case. Pets love to chew on them!
•Initially, you may find it difficult to speak. Practice speaking, reading, or singing out loud to get used to them faster.
•Retainers are breakable, so treat them with care. If retainers are lost or broken call us immediately.
•If you have any questions or concerns about your retainers, or your retainers need adjusting, call us. Do not try to adjust them yourself.
•Always bring your retainers to your appointments.
•Retainer replacement is expensive… with proper care they will last for years!
•Remove retainers when swimming.
•Keep retainers away from hot water, hot car dashboards, pockets, the washing machine, and napkins.
