An orthodontist is a dentist who specializes in the treatment of crooked or misaligned teeth. Contrary to popular belief, orthodontics is not merely about the cosmetic appearance of patient smiles, but also about their oral health. Patients who visit an orthodontist for treatment often find it easier to brush their teeth and floss. This significantly reduces the risk of developing tooth decay or periodontal disease. Some of the conditions orthodontists treat include:
Overbite, underbite, open bite and crossbite
Gaps and spacing between the teeth
Overcrowded teeth
Did you know…
…that at orthodontic offices, like our offices in Kokomo, Logansport and Noblesville you will see a dentist like Dr. Kevin who has spent an additional 2 or 3 years in specialty training following dental school? Dentists perform a broad range of work, with occasional orthodontic treatments. Orthodontists, on the other hand, only see orthodontic patients. So even if your family dentist offers to straighten your teeth, keep in mind that only an orthodontist has the type of specialized training that ensures ideal functional and aesthetic results

What happens after my first meeting with an orthodontist?
If you choose to begin your treatment, we can oftentimes take records that very same day! Orthodontic records typically consist of photographs, special xrays and a scan to make 3-D computerized models of your teeth. There is no substitute for having all the information that these diagnostic tests can provide. This is one area where taking shortcuts can lead to improper diagnosis and treatment. We will typically meet for a final consultation to discuss all aspects of your treatment plan. Then on your next appointment we can put on your braces, place your first Invisalign trays or insert your appliance. Then you're on your way toward your new smile!
